The Evolution of Wildrose Rodeo Association
Robbie McDonald was frustrated with some politics in a newly formed amateur rodeo association.  Wanting to continue the rodeo tradition he decided to form a new rodeo association in 1980.  The North Eastern Alberta Amateur Rodeo Cowboys Association (NEAARCA) started with about 50 members and 6 rodeos.  The 1st rodeo was held in Hylo, AB.  In 1983 the name was changed to Wild Rose Amateur Rodeo Association (WRARA). In 1985 the name became Wild Rose Rodeo Association (WRRA) and in 1990 shortened to Wildrose Rodeo Association (WRA). In 2009 the membership grew to over 600 members.  In 1981 the first finals were held in Hobbema with 4 performances.  In 1982 they were moved to Mayerthorpe and remained until 1985.  In 1986 the finals moved to Barrhead.  The first President was Billy Sands, Vice-President was Robbie McDonald and the Secretary was Mary McDonald.  WRA uses the point system instead of money for our contestants to make the finals.  The WRA has events for every member of the family.
We are very thankful for all our great sponsors without them we wouldn’t have such a great Association.

The Wildrose Rodeo Association is a non-profit organization.

2013 NEWSLETTER

ATTN: Tie Down Ropers!!!
Calves are to be tied at 7:30 am Saturday morning before the slack at Thorsby.

ATTENTION ALL CONTESTANTS!!!

The rodeo committees work very hard to host a rodeo.  Therefore riding should be done only in designated areas (not ball diamonds, school grounds, any other roped off or posted areas).  Without respecting the grounds some of them will have difficulty hosting a rodeo in the future.  Also please pick up garbage (hay, horse manure, cans and paper).  There are garbage bins.  IN GENERAL CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELVES AND HAVE RESPECT.
