Wildrose Rodeo Association
Robbie McDonald formed what was the North Eastern Alberta Amateur Rodeo Cowboys Association (NEAARCA) in 1980 with 50 members and 6 rodeos. The first rodeo was held in Hylo, Ab. In 1983 the name was changed to the Wildrose Amateur Rodeo Association (WRARA) and in 1985 it was shortened to the Wildrose Rodeo Association (WRA).
The WRA aims to be an association that the whole family can participate in. They make it a priority to have events at their rodeos for every member of the family.
The first finals were held in what was then Hobbema in 1981. In 1982 they moved to Mayerthorpe where they remained until 1985. In 1986 the finals were moved to Barrhead, where they remain today.
The WRA uses a point system rather than money won to determine who qualifies for the finals.
The Wildrose Rodeo Association is a non-profit organization and is very grateful to all of our sponsors that allow us to continue to sanction these great family events.
